About Me

I’m a 25 year old woman named Lane (hence the blog name.) I married my wonderful husband in 2008 and we had our first child, a beautiful baby girl, in March 2010. I am currently a stay-at-home mom and a full time college student trying to tackle the ins and outs of being a great wife and mother, while still having my own interests and passions. It’s crazy trying to juggle college and motherhood, but it will allow me to be a better mother and role model when I finish. I have two kitties that are my sweet baby boys, Zoey and Spartacus. I spoil them rotten and I enjoy every second of it.

I live in Utah, where I have lived all my life. I love my family and my friends and I enjoy cooking (and eating!) with them and entertaining when I can. I’m a vegetarian and it is especially fun to cook for meat-eaters that have the misconception that I must only eat salads. They always love the vegetarian fare and it is wonderful to open people’s minds to new concepts and see their reaction. I believe that everyone should keep an open mind in all areas of their lives, for without out that we become stagnant and judgmental.

I am very passionate about many things, but two particular topics stand out among the rest. I am a big animal rights advocate. I believe animals should be treated with the same dignity and respect that we should show to our fellow humans. One of my favorite quotes says it perfectly:

“Compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind.”

–Dr. Albert Schweitzer

Animals think and feel and I believe they are so much smarter than most humans give them credit for. They exhibit the same emotions that have so long been considered “human.” They all have unique personalities and when we look at them as something “lesser” than us, it only brings us down.

The other topic that fires me up is feminism. I believe woman should have the same rights as men and there shouldn’t be any kind of a gender gap in our society. I never go to the extreme on either animal rights or feminism, I just believe that there should be equality. I understand that men and woman are very different. We think differently and we do have different strengths in general, but that should be a positive and not magnified into something that is such a negative that woman don’t even receive the same salaries or health care benefits.

I have been through a lot in my life, even though I’m still young. I feel like many of the experiences that I have had give me a unique outlook on certain areas of life and they have certainly given me a lot of opinions. I insert my own brand of humor in most everything I write, though there are serious posts, but I think the more you can laugh each day, the better off you’ll be. I have no idea if anyone else thinks I’m funny, but I make myself laugh, so I figure that’s a good thing, right?

I love to blog, because it gives me an outlet for all of my thoughts and opinions. Everyone needs to be able to release the stresses of everyday life and it’s also fabulous to share all the amazing things that happen as well. Blogging has also helped me to connect to other bloggers, specifically mommy bloggers, and it has been so nice to know that most moms go through all the same things and have all the same frustrations. I hope you enjoy reading my blog and I love it when I get comments! It’s nice to hear what other people think, even if they disagree with me (unless you’re my husband…)
